We’ve completely redesigned the Northwest waterfall garden, using contrasting shapes, colors and textures for a dramatic effect. Renovations in the Asian garden feature the interplay between plants arranged in striking combinations. Elsewhere, creative updates offer great inspirations for your own garden

• Surrounding the waterfall, you’ll find dwarf conifers making a shapely statement amid tumbling rocks. A spiky blue juniper points to the sky, while a twisted cryptomeria keeps company with the softly rounded golden Hinoki cypress. An orangeola maple drapes over the rocks, adding vivid color with its delicate leaves.

• In the Asian garden, pieris ‘Prelude,’ a fragrant shrub with tiny white flowers and glossy green leaves, stands in colorful contrast to the intriguing black mondo grass. A backdrop of cryptomeria ‘Sekkan Sugi’ lights up the scene with its golden-tipped foliage.
• Take a moment to find the grotto alcove hidden behind the Asian garden. This shady spot, with a serene figure tucked in among ferns, invites a moment’s rest and contemplation.
